The Role

GCN is seeking a curious, creative and driven Staff Reporter to join our growing team. The GCN editorial team delivers insightful, on-point coverage of the tech issues our readers face: deploying and enforcing cybersecurity, managing cloud services, and leveraging data & analytics. As the Tech Reporter, you will be instrumental in making GCN a critical voice in the government technology arena. You will identify important stories about technology solutions that our audience of government IT leaders can use to improve how they deliver mission-critical services. In this role, you will report directly to the Executive Editor. 

Responsibilities 

• Discover stories and write copy for the website, including news and product briefs, case studies, features, profiles and tech-based strategy discussions.
• Develop key sources and leverage them for original reporting.
• Moderate virtual and in-person events with government and industry speakers.
• Contribute to ebooks, special reports, podcasts and other editorial projects.

Preferred Qualifications 

• 3+ years of experience in daily tech reporting.
• Understanding of enterprise technology and/or state and local government issues a plus.
• Exceptional communication skills.
• Strong writing and analytical skills and high attention to detail.
• Familiarity with AP style.
