The Daily Herald is searching for a digital news editor to help drive innovation and ensure we deliver our online audiences the highest-caliber journalism in different, unique and always-improving ways. This is a key position in our newsroom, responsible for the day-to-day oversight of the digital news operation.
We’re looking for a passionate, inspirational, collaborative leader to work with our growing digital team to help further establish our digital-first newsroom culture. First and foremost, we seek an experienced journalist with strong news judgment and a demonstrated ability to produce and oversee high-quality work. We’re seeking someone who loves a good story and helping tell that story in new ways to our digital audience. This is a rather hands-on job much of the time, including occasionally stepping in for frontline web producers and editing content on a daily basis.
The digital news editor works closely with the executive editor, local news editor, the chief photographer and others to shape the daily news product. They also participate in management decisions about staffing and personnel, budgeting, coverage and other strategic areas. This position also collaborates with audience development, product development and other departments to communicate technology needs and advocate on the newsroom’s behalf. We need someone as comfortable talking with a reporter about their copy as they are a programmer about a needed upgrade.
We’re looking for someone experienced using analytics to help inform digital strategy.
The digital news editor must be detail-oriented and able to critically evaluate newsroom processes, structure and workflow to achieve efficiency without sacrificing quality.
The Daily Herald with its website, HeraldNet.com, has been the leading news and information source in Snohomish County, Washington, for more than a century. We are in Everett, a vibrant and growing community 30 miles north of Seattle, framed by Puget Sound to the west and the Cascade Range to the east.
This is a full-time position that includes excellent benefits: medical, dental, life insurance, 401k with employer match, paid vacation and sick days. If this job sounds like a good opportunity and you’re looking to join a dynamic, growing newsroom in one of the most beautiful parts of the United States, we’d love to hear from you. No calls, please. To apply, please send the following to careers@soundpublishing.com: (1) a resumé and cover letter outlining how you are a good fit for this position and your vision for it; (2) at least three professional references. Please also include your salary requirements. Make sure to include “DigitalNewsEditor” in the subject line.
