Description of Work:
The News Director will direct Nebraska Public Media's multi-platform news and current affairs coverage to create and distribute content that meets the highest ethical standards for editorial integrity, quality, and relevance, and that is valued and used by audiences locally, regionally and nationally. Plan, articulate, and execute a vision and strategy to meet audiences where they are by creating original content for traditional, new, and emerging platforms.
Duties include: setting and maintaining an editorial vision and standards for all journalism driven by rigorous editing; elevating Nebraska Public Media's profile nationally by building and enhancing relationships and developing news content with and for NPR News, PBS NewsHour and regional partners; coordinating news coverage across all platforms: digital, radio, and television; directing and managing news staff; developing enterprise and investigative stories, special series, and election coverage; serving as on air host, writer, reporter, and producer; developing project proposals and budgets; articulating the resources and technology needed for the department; collaborating with peers in radio, digital, communications, television, and audience research in managing complex projects.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in journalism or a closely related field plus five years' experience in two of three content organizations (radio, television, newspaper, or digital) with at least one of those experiences as a practicing journalist; equivalent education/experience considered. Supervisory and leadership experience. Experience in creating and leading, and implementing best journalism practices. Excellent communication and presentation skills, ability to edit and coach the work of others. Awareness of, interest in, and commitment to serving audiences on multiple platforms—digital/social and broadcast.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in journalism or a closely related field. NPR and PBS experience and knowledge. Experience writing for digital platforms. Experience leading collaborative news projects. Knowledge of audio and video production techniques and procedures, production management software, editing systems, and nonlinear story editing techniques and technologies. Deep knowledge of Nebraska people, cultures, and geography, as well as national and international issues and events.
Posted Salary: Negotiable based on qualifications and experience.
