Duties and Responsibilities:
This creative, problem-solving individual will offer visual communication solutions for a range of strategic projects undertaken by Vanderbilt University Medical Center Development. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to: creative design and overall creative concepts; branding and visual identity leadership and support; image curation, creation, and selection; and production and fulfillment of projects. Reporting to the Lead Communications Strategist, the graphic designer will collaborate with writers and editors, digital strategists, project managers and others to create materials that inspire engagement with and giving to the Medical Center.
The person in this position must have excellent interpersonal communication skills, superior organizational and project management skills, the ability to work collaboratively on creative projects, and have strong design skills and an aesthetic that demonstrates an understanding of current and emerging trends.
Create a wide range of visual materials for print and digital production. Examples include proposals for funding, impact reports, signage, ads, publications, branded collateral, slide decks, direct mail pieces, event promotions, digital image creation, presentations and infographics to convey complex information.
Produce print and digital design work that is of highest quality, supports the Medical Center's brand and supports the goals of the individual project.
Work independently and in cross-functional groups on a variety of strategic communications projects that require creative problem-solving and concept development.
Serve as brand steward by adhering to identity guidelines established by VUMC Marketing and Engagement, ensuring they are up to date, and providing brand training to Development colleagues.
Arrange and direct photo shoots.
Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent experience)
2 years relevant experience
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
At least five years of experience in graphic design; experience in an agency, business or institutional setting preferred.
Ability to meet deadlines consistently.
Ability to organize, prioritize and adjust workflow as needed.
Experience contributing to collaborative projects.
Ability to work independently and in groups.
Ability to use feedback from managers and clients to improve work.
Proficiency using Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite and other technologies.
Thorough understanding of print production process; ability to manage projects through production.
Strong interpersonal and oral presentation skills.
Experience in a nonprofit organization is a plus.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and experience.
