Position Summary:
Fordham University's News and Media Relations Videographer/Photographer creates engaging video and photos that tell the stories of the University—from student successes to events to faculty research to large University initiatives. Reporting to the senior director of communications, the person in this position will be part of a news and social media staff that works to promote Fordham to its various constituents: students, faculty, staff, parents, donors, and the community.
The ideal candidate is a creative, fast-moving, flexible individual with a good eye and a good news sense. Videos and photographs created by this individual may accompany news stories written by other writers or may serve as stand-alone news pieces. They will also appear on the University's social media channels.

Essential Functions:
Shoots video and photos on set and on location—on Fordham's campuses and throughout NYC.
Sets up and takes down cameras, microphones, lighting, props and other equipment.
Edits footage and photos after shooting.
Adds lower thirds, captions, and effects to videos that are consistent with Fordham's brand.
Shoots b-roll.
Writes compelling text in a news format that can accompany videos and photos.
Catalogs equipment and recommends equipment updates.
Selects, cleans and performs maintenance (including minor) on equipment when able.
Suggests or selects music.
Manages video and photo archives.
Maintains appropriate licensing rights for use of music and other intellectual property.
Collaborates closely with the News team to strategize and plan coverage.
Travels between Fordham's Bronx and Manhattan campuses, and other locations in NYC, as needed—sometimes on short notice.
Performs work on weekends and evenings when necessary.
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent.
3 to 5 years of experience shooting video and taking photos in a news environment or similar.
Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
Ability to work quickly, sometimes shooting and producing on the same day.
Have strong verbal and written communication skills for collaborating with subjects and crafting text to accompany videos.
Ability to communicate with diverse professionals in a positive, collegial manner.
Ability to tell stories visually and create compelling and inspiring narratives.
Be proficient in telling a coherent story and developing concepts that support the University and departmental strategic goals.
Have the physical ability to move and hold recording equipment for long periods.
Strong working knowledge of Adobe Premiere CC, Adobe After Effects, Photoshop, and Motion graphics technology.
Knowledge of ADA compliance regulations.
Knowledge of basic organizational web tools: Google Drive (preferable), email managers, video conference programs, and calendars.
Demonstrated comprehensive, in-depth knowledge of pre-production/planning, storyboarding, studio and field production, lighting/grip, audio engineering, video composition, and video/image compression for multiple delivery platforms.
Knowledge of post-production techniques.
Expert knowledge in lighting sets (especially for indoor shoots), sound recording, and editing.
Experience capturing/importing media, organizing raw media, editing footage and sound files, creating and inserting static and motion graphics, closed captioning, adding music/voice over, media management and archiving project media, and posting to YouTube and other web platforms.
Up to date with new industry technological advances, software and equipment.
Strong knowledge of the latest trends and best practices in successful and measurable audience engagement through multimedia projects.
A comprehensive understanding of social media platforms and the latest trends and best practices for multimedia applications.
Have excellent attention to detail and fact-checking skills.
Willingness to learn and support Fordham's Jesuit and Catholic mission and identity.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in communications, media arts, multimedia production, photography, or related field.
