The Executive Producer of All Things Considered is the lynchpin of WBUR's flagship afternoon
news magazine, and the EP is responsible for the overall editorial direction and execution of the
show.
In this role, you will supervise the show's staff, manage the assignments it takes on and the content it creates, and establish the creative vision for the program. This also includes overseeing the afternoon newsdesk and its production of original, high-quality and agenda-setting newscasts that distinguish WBUR.
Finally, as a manager at WBUR, you will play a crucial role - balancing the needs of the ATC with the needs of the organization as a whole, and working to nurture an environment in which talented journalists can do their best work.
Primary Responsibilities:
Lead a talented and diverse team of journalists, providing coaching, feedback and
professional development.
Supervise and direct all elements of ATC and afternoon newscasts
Coordinate coverage with newsroom editors
Direct show, as needed
Ensure ATC is timely, on top of the news, and is setting Boston's news agenda
Edit with an intense eye for detail, fairness, independence, accuracy, and
newsworthiness
Lead daily/weekly editorial show meetings
Plan special coverage
Onsite: This position will be onsite Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week.
Required Skills What Youll Need to Succeed:
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent/relevant experience
A minimum of 5 years of related experience in media, journalism, broadcasting, audio production
Capabilities and Proficiencies:
An excitement about WBURs mission to provide an essential public good: high-quality local journalism and enriching experiences that foster understanding, connection and community.
A commitment to journalism fundamentals, including accuracy, fairness, respect, honesty and independence on air and online (for more, see WBURs ethics guidelines).
An understanding of the importance of managing for the team and for the organization as a whole
Strong teamwork skills, and experience collaborating with hosts and producers
Grace under pressure
Editorial experience in a fast-paced daily newsroom environment
An ability to adapt quickly to change
Attention to detail, and an ability to copy edit and quality check audio
Ability to work under pressure, meet multiple daily and long-term deadlines
Detailed knowledge of Boston, or a demonstrated ability to get up to speed in a new city quickly.
Must be willing to work in-office (Boston)
