The National Press Club Journalism Institute is housed within the National Press Club in downtown Washington, D.C. This is an in-person role on our team, with the opportunity to work remotely one day per week after six months of employment. Fully remote work is not available for this position.
The salary band for this position begins at $77,000.

Required Education:

The National Press Club Journalism Institute, a 501(c)(3), is hiring a Training Coordinator to organize and execute its professional development work for working journalists. This role will be at the center of planning and executing impactful learning that powers journalism in the public interest. The Institute’s current training portfolio includes virtual and in-person programming at our Washington, D.C., headquarters. The training coordinator will also oversee day-to-day operations of the Eric Friedheim National Journalism Library and its professional development resources.
*This position has strong opportunities to start or shift to a manager role based on skills and experience.
Programmatic responsibilities include:
Work closely with the Executive Director and staff to execute a professional development strategy that meets NPCJI’s goals and mission;
Support the operations and logistics of all professional development and NPCJI events, to include more than two dozen virtual or in-person programs annually on a wide range of topics, including evening events, daylong workshops, and conferences;
Handle day-to-day administration of events and programs, including developing event timelines, BEO reviews, security scheduling and walk-throughs, coordinating press, leading programming run-throughs, attendee participation, registration counts, RSVP tracking, assessment, and issues resolution;
Generate training ideas that extend the Institute’s reach and competitiveness, meet the industry’s needs, and build loyalty;
Collaborate with the Executive Director and other stakeholders on curriculum design;
Build and manage a database of potential speakers and teachers that reflects the diverse constituents media represents;
Craft messages that convey the value of professional development programs to the target audiences for promotional use;
Provide teaching support for classes as needed;
Support the development of first-rate experiences for onsite and virtual attendees to drive brand awareness and member experience;
Write and edit takeaways and resources for Institute newsletters, social media, and website;
Track budget and registration to ensure training programs meet expectations and requirements for grantmakers;
Track measurement tools to evaluate outcomes;
Collect and contribute program narratives for grant applications and development initiatives;
Maintain annual training calendar and course descriptions;
Assess future learning needs in consultation with members, staff, board, journalists, journalism students and members of the public.
Library responsibilities include:
Coordinate library orientation and other related training;
Coordinate and manage resources and space;
Provide general office support as needed;
Manage office administration, handling mail intake, conference room bookings, and equipment check-out;
Serve as an initial voice of customer service for constituents interested in NPCJI events and library resources;
Audit and improve systems for managing library and office environments.
Other duties may be assigned by the Executive Director.

Required Skills and Qualifications
Reporting or editing experience in a newsroom environment within the last five years
A strong interest in developing journalism curriculum or training resources
Excellent organizational, communication, and multitasking skills
Ability to master new software and tools for event registration, content management, email marketing, virtual events and webinars; proficiency in MS Office and Google products
Experience with current social media platforms
Strong analytical and communication skills in writing and in person. Excellent knowledge of AP and journalistic style and attention to detail are musts.
Collaborative and entrepreneurial approach to work
A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
Strong experience using digital tools, including Zoom, Slack, Outlook suite, Google suite, and Wordpress, or similar tools
Experience editing, teaching, or coaching journalists
Experience in conference or event planning or execution
