The Role: US FIG Reporter - Regulation, Policy

The Location: Washington, D.C./Charlottesville, VA Remote workers considered based on experience/necessity.

The Team: Reporters and editors around the world collaborate to bring readers breaking news and in-depth reporting on the regulatory changes, M&A activity and business trends impacting the financial sector. We value interpersonal skills, creative thinking, teamwork, a passion for news, curiosity and of course, accurate writing.

The Impact: Market Intelligence subscribers care deeply about the actions taken in Washington, D.C. that directly impact how they do business. Our in-depth, data-driven coverage enables us to develop differentiated content. You will cover the interplay between the banking industry and Washington, D.C.-based regulators and lawmakers, a topic that resonates strongly with our readers. The reporter will cover policy developments coming out of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency and the Federal Reserve. The focus of the beat is to highlight the issues that impact bank earnings and capital requirements. Market Intelligence reporters can leverage our vast internal data sets to assist with developing story ideas. A particular hot topic is the rise of financial technology companies that are aiming to get a regulatory edge and disrupt the banking industry. You will also help with monetary policy and bank earnings coverage as needed.

Compensation/Benefits Information (US Applicants Only):

S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $38.4k to $79.7k. Base salary ranges may vary by geographic location.

In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan.

Responsibilities

• Break news on new rules, bills and regulations impacting the banking sector
• Write follow-ups that use data to explain the degree to which the sector will be affected.
• Juggle multiple assignments
• Write in-depth features that explore regulatory and market trends.
• Brainstorm ideas for coverage to build our brand while collaborating with editors and data journalists

What We're Looking For:

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree (Journalism or related field preferred)
• Impeccable writing skills
• At least two years of journalism experience
• Openness to editorial feedback
• Drive to beat the other outlets to the big stories
